1. IT ALLOWS YOU TO  ENJOY ALL THOSE EXTRA-TIME AT HOME

Let’s be honest: everybody has spent a huge amount of time inside. No matter where you live, 2021 and still 2022 dictates a restriction-based lifestyle. So, how to spend all that extra-time at home?

Easy: learn how to crochet and you will no longer get bored!

2. IT’S THERAPEUTIC

It’s scientifically proven that crocheting (and knitting) can improve your mood and general well-being.
It lowers heart rates and blood pressure, it helps dealing with chronic pain and stress, it allows your brain to stay focused and to enter in a state of peace of mind at the same time.

3. YOU ARE ABLE TO CREATE YOUR OWN GARMENTS AND ACCESSORIES

Did you know that up to 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size for them?
This is just an example. If you have struggled finding garments with a good fit for your size and body..... good news!
With your tape measure, some yarn and a hook, you can now create your own comfortable clothes and underwear.

In fact, you can create anything you can think of: accessories, home decor, costumes, toys….

This is my Papillon Bralette, a design meant to accomodate every body, breast and size.

4. YOU CAN  TAP INTO YOUR CREATIVE SELF

Do you consider yourself creative? Is creativity an in-born quality or a practice that can be developed over time by practicing?
I believe everyone is creative in their own, unique way.
It is a practice, not an in-born talent. Someone might have an innate inclination to be creative in one area and not at all in another.

If you don’t consider yourself creative, it doesn’t mean you can’t tap into your creative self by following someone’s else crochet pattern! There are plenty of patterns out there, ready to be followed to create something magical!
The only things you need to do is to get started.

5. YOU CAN LEARN HOW TO CULTIVATE PATIENCE

If you’re a person who gets impatient very quickly, this might be the best way to learn how to cultivate patience.

Learning a new craft, like crochet, requires patience as you might fail many times before getting into the flow and learning the basic stitches. This approach generates a nice feeling of accomplishment, as you get over the frustration and manage to achieve your goals.

6. IT HELPS TO MANAGE ANXIETY

Crocheting it’s comforting, it calms anxiety and help promoting relaxation.
The repetition of stitches is said to stimulate the production of serotonin, the brain’s chemical that makes you feel happy.
It helps shift your focus and makes you feel more tranquil and at peace.

7. IT’S MEDITATIVE

Many crocheters claim that they are able to shut off their brain while working.
I personally don’t shut my brain off but, on the contrary, I achieve a deep state of mindfulness, in which I can see my thoughts and analyse them without judgment. I often achieve mental clarity and I get anchored to the present moment.

8. IT’S SAFE-DISTANCE APPROVED

I guess this is pretty self-explanatory: crocheting is a one-person job so you can easily do it when you’re home alone. (or....not! you can also crochet with kids, partners and pets hanging around...)

9. IT’S PRETTY CHEAP

If you want to start crocheting, all you need is some yarn and a crochet hook. The good thing about crochet hooks is that they last forever!

I honestly still crochet with the same hooks I bought 8 years ago while learning this craft.

These are the products I recommend you, if you are just getting started!

Yarn can be pretty cheap and good quality (you can also find luxurious expensive yarn of course).
My suggestion is to go have a look at your local craft/yarn store or to check out the web: there are many websites out there, where you can purchase good quality yarn for a reasonable price.

My favourite website is Lovecrafts, where you can shop craft supplies, yarn and get access to free patterns! It is a very trustworthy and inspiring website.

Etsy is another nice website where you can find everything you need.
